It’s too damn cold nowadays! I open my cabinet to take out my favourite sweater. And guess what I saw? There is a hole in it! 😑 but I’m stubborn too. I won’t wear anything but this one. Why through it when I know all types of darning stitches

I take out my darning stitch tools and start doing Woven darn stitch. Let me show you how I did darning stitch repair,

I put the fabric in the darning mushrooms and thread my needle with embroidery floss Or you can try darning stitch needlepoint with this one.

bring my needle through the right side and out the left side

I bring my needle through the right side and out the left side, then gently pull the yarn through, kinda like straight stitches, not like diagonal stitches. It resembles scotch darning.

After that, I push the needle back down where I started and bring it up at the bottom of the V right next to it. It’s kind of like tracing the stitches that are already there.

Push the needle to come through on the right side of that v. Push to the left side and then you want to just pull it.

Then, put your needle back down where you started at that bottom point of the v. And then you’re going just to pull it. The Darning loom will cover the damaged part with stitches.

You just go right to the left, down, and up, and repeat!  This will create a strong stitch for hand sewing. That will create the weaving pattern to repair holes or worn-out fabric, mimicking the original weave. That’s What is woven darn?

When I reach the worn area,

I make sure my stitches aren’t too tight or loose. If there’s a small gap, I don’t stress. The next row of stitches will usually fill it in. But if it doesn’t, I can add a quick whip stitch to fix it up. That’s how to start a stitch.

I’m using sock-weight yarn for woven darn stitch. This is thin and matches.  You can even use embroidery thread. It’s important to use yarn that’s not too thick. It makes everything smoother and easier to work with.

Woven darn stitch specifically mimics a weaving pattern for mending, while darning is a broader term encompassing various techniques to repair fabric.

That’s the difference between Woven darn stitch vs darning.

Once I finish the first row,

I start the next one just above it. I bring my darning needles up at the bottom of the new V and repeat the same steps right to left, down, and up.

It’s really satisfying to see how the stitches blend in! If I want an invisible fix, I use matching yarn.

But sometimes, I use bright colors to make a fun, patchwork-style mend. Especially if I’m working to create a Woven darn stitch pattern.

As I continue, the worn area feels stronger and looks as good as new. And that’s it! The duplicate stitch is such a handy little technique.

It might take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it’s relaxing. That’s the beauty of doing woven darn stitch.
