How To Hand-Stitch A Half Loop Top Stitch? Top Stitch But With A Twist

Ok so after learning all the types of topstitch from a sewing book I decided to give some of them a try. So the 1st stop is half loop top stitch. Cause I thought it would be easy so why not start from this one?

So I grab my thread and needle for top stitch and get into business. 🪡

Half Loop Top Stitch
I grab my needle and thread

I grab my needle and thread. I make sure they’re the right size for my fabric.

I cut about 18-24 inches of thread because this is perfect for top stitch. Then thread my needle, and tie a knot at the end. If I need to, I use a fabric marking tool to draw a line where I want my stitch to go.

Then draw 2 straight lines side by side.

Then draw 2 straight lines side by side. I’m keeping a 2 inch gap between them but you can adjust it according to your needs.

Then place the stiletto in between the lines. It will help you to guide threads, smooth them out, or position them for precise stitching.

Then place the stiletto in between the lines
push the needle from behind the fabric

Now I push the needle from behind the fabric. Pull it until it’s done.

Got it? Great, now push the needle to the other side of the stiletto. Pull the thread down until it’s locking the stiletto. But wait! Don’t lock the stiletto completely. Keep it a little loose.

push back the needle from the other side

Then again, push back the needle from the other side. Keep the stitch really. No need to give any space between them.

Now keep repeating through the whole line until the half loop top stitch is done. After you are satisfied with your length you can pull off the stiletto and that’s it. You got the beautiful half loop top stitch. 😍
